The acting Minister of Culture, Sergiu Prodan, asserts that he concludes his mandate fulfilled and proud of his team’s achievements. During a press conference, where he presented the successes of his four years of activity, the minister said he is returning to his creative work, reports IPN.
Sergiu Prodan stated that, in recent years, an integrated vision of the cultural field has been consolidated, built on concrete experiences, solid partnerships, and sustainable public policies. “The level of culture has increased, as has the number of events, but especially their quality”, emphasized the minister.
When asked about failures, such as the project of reconstructing the National Philharmonic, which has not yet been realized, Sergiu Prodan mentioned that the ministry has prioritized care for people.
“If we had gotten stuck in cement and concrete, we would not have been able to reach people. Our priority was direct support for people. We cannot afford to hastily build a building of such magnitude without adequate funding. However, reconstruction remains a government objective”, the minister declared.
Regarding the works on 31 August Street, the minister admitted that it was a failure, referring to the fact that he failed to explain to the public what the ministry’s responsibilities are in this project and what are those of the local public administration. “I am sure that the future minister will continue the dialogue to reach this truth”, said Sergiu Prodan.
Among the main achievements mentioned by the minister are the adoption of the National Strategy for Culture and Heritage 2025-2035, the increase of the ministry’s budget from 470 to 743 million lei, the launch of the National Funds for Culture and Cinema, as well as the organization of over 300 cultural events in rural areas. Important monuments have been restored, including the Soroca and Tighina Fortresses, and the successful inclusion of the shirt with altiță in the UNESCO list. Also, a cultural voucher for young people was introduced, and tourism has seen a significant increase.
Sergiu Prodan has held the position of Minister of Culture since August 2021, initially appointed in the Government led by Natalia Gavrilița, and subsequently continued his mandate in the executive led by Dorin Recean.
