The Moldovan wines make the Republic of Moldova famous abroad, with Romania being the most attractive market. The wine industry accounts for 3% of the country’s GDP and is a very developed sector, it was stated in a conference centering on the sector’s attractiveness and market opportunities that was staged by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
The wine industry ensures 6% of Moldova’s exports. “This sector made the Republic of Moldova famous in about 70 countries and continues expanding the country’s fame. The wine companies of our county were open to the internationalization of this product,” said the chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Sergiu Harea.
Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vladimir Bolea said the winemaking and winegrowing sectors are very important and have growth potential. “We now export bottled wine more and this is high-quality wine that made us world-renowned. It is phenomenal growth when we have established wine producing countries as opponents. We are going through a difficult period owing to the gas price as the price of glass rises too. I hope the higher prices will not be an impediment. I think in 2023-2024 we will also help the small producers to become involved in this internationalization process,” stated the official.
Viorel Garaz, secretary of state at the Ministry of Economy, said the wine sector is an advanced one. “Romania was the first country that lent us a hand. With the assistance of the European partners, we managed to diversify the export markets and the wines of our country are now exported to over 70 countries and they are the most awarded wines at international level, being always in the lead,” noted the functionary.
Adam Gruzinski, of the EU Delegation to Moldova, said the European Union will continue to help Moldova to enter new markets as the prospects are promising. “The producers of the wine industry of the Republic of Moldova should have direct relations with other international companies of the European Union. This sector is strategic and the small and medium-sized producers of counties of the Eastern Partnership will receive support from the European Union,” stated Adam Gruzinski.
Elizaveta Breahna, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, said the wine industry makes a 16% contribution to the value added brought by the sector to the national budget. “About 15% of the able to work population works namely in winegrowing and winemaking. Over 52,000 famers are involved in this process. We have protected geographical indications. In 2022, wine exports came to US$254 million. Moldova is the most awarded Eastern European country in terms of quality of wine. Over the last five years, our wines were awarded 5,000 times,” noted Elizaveta Breahna.
