Outbreaks of swine fever in the villages of Braniște and Seliște. Quarantine has been established

An outbreak of swine fever has been registered in the locality of Braniște in the Râșcani district, and two other outbreaks have been confirmed in the village of Seliște in the Leova district. In both cases, laboratory tests confirmed the presence of the virus, after samples were taken from domestic pigs. Quarantine measures have been established in the localities.

Contacted by IPN, the mayor of Braniște, Daniela Colțun, confirmed that the outbreak was detected in a private household. This happened after the owner noticed the sudden death of two pigs and immediately notified the authorities. The samples taken by specialists from the National Agency for Food Safety confirmed the presence of the ASF virus.

“Immediately after confirmation, a quarantine was established in the area until September 8, and strict biosecurity measures were applied in the affected household. Four other pigs were slaughtered, and the area was disinfected,” said Daniela Colțun.

At the local level, the Emergency Situations Commission was convened, which established an action plan to limit the outbreak.

ANSA urges citizens to avoid feeding pigs with food leftovers or freshly harvested cereals, which could be contaminated by wild boars carrying the virus. Also, it is forbidden to procure animals without a veterinary health certificate, as well as food products made from meat from unauthorized places.

African swine fever is an extremely contagious viral disease, affecting domestic pigs and wild boars, but it poses no danger to humans. However, the impact on the livestock industry is significant, and the spread of outbreaks can lead to economic losses and disruption of pork supply.
