More than 3,300 children got vaccinated against COVID-19 by now. No adverse events were reported in these cases, secretary of state at the Ministry of Health Svetlana Nicolăescu stated in a news conference. Referring to identified irregularities, the functionary said that in some of the cases not the recommended Pfizer, but another vaccine was administered. The health workers were repeatedly warned to ensure the observance of the rules approved by the Ministry of Heath, IPN reports.
As to the new Omicron variant detected in South Africa, which is considered more contagious than Delta, Svetlana Nicolăescu said all the cases identified globally were either asymptomatic or mild ones. There were reported no severe cases or deaths. The preventive measures should be further observed so as to avoid infection. In Moldova, Omicron hasn’t been confirmed so far.
As to statistics, Svetlana Nicolaescu said the number of COVID-19 cases declined by over 60% from the peak of the pandemic wave recorded in mid-October. The new cases reported last week totaled over 4,200, down over 20% compared with a week before. Four territorial units are on orange alert: Basarabeasca, Dondușeni, Chisinau municipality and Bălți municipality. The number of deaths logged last week (235) declined by 30% on a week earlier.
The rate of vaccination with a completed series is 27%. The immunization rate is constant, with about 23,000 doses of vaccine being administered weekly.
