Some 63% of the COVID-19 cases reported in the recent period in the Republic of Moldova are the Omicron variant, Nicolae Jelamschi, director of the National Public Health Agency, stated in a news conference, being quoted by IPN.
Out of the samples collected on January 17-27, 16 turned out to be the Omicron variant. Fourteen persons were hospitalized, while two are receiving treatment at home. Five of these 16 cases were recorded in Chisinau.
Five cases of Omicron were confirmed in the 60-69 age bracket, while by three cases among persons aged between 10 and 19 and between 50 and 59.
The number of cases of flu and acute viral infections last week rose by 44% compared with the corresponding period last year.
