Over 97,000 electors voted during first two hours

In two hours of the opening of polling stations, the turnout in the presidential election was 3.57%, which is over 97,000 voters. In Chisinau municipality, more than 21,000 voters or 3.3% cast their ballots so far, IPN reports.

The women were more active in the morning and the ratio of women to men at country level was 51.20% to 48.80%.

Most of the voters, 25.99%, were electors aged between 56 and 65. This age category is followed by citizens aged between 46 and 55 – 19.76%. This is followed by voters aged 66-75 – 19.26%, 36-45 – 16.67%, 26-35 – 9.26%. Less active were the young people aged between 18 and 25 – 5.49%, followed by the age category of 76 years+ – 3.56%.

Political campaigning on election day is strictly forbidden. It is not allowed to carry out or cover electoral activities and candidates running in elections are banned from appearing in television or radio shows.

Polling stations are open until 09:00 p.m.
