The peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine is “very close,” stated the US President, Donald Trump, after having a meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Florida on Sunday. Trump added that he will continue the discussions with Zelensky on Monday and announced active negotiations in the following two weeks, reports IPN.
In turn, Volodymyr Zelensky stated, at a press conference, that the peace plan project, elaborated in 20 points, is 90% ready, and that the security guarantees between the USA and Ukraine have been “100% agreed upon”.
Regarding territorial concessions, Trump clarified that there are still differences of opinion regarding the future status of Donbas – the Donetsk and Lugansk regions. However, the White House leader assured that the outcome of negotiations between Russia and Ukraine could be known “in a few weeks” and that, although the issue of territories is not resolved, he expressed confidence that it will be resolved. According to the leader from Kiev, the Ukrainian people must address the territorial issue, and a possible referendum could address each point of the peace plan.
At the same time, Donald Trump mentioned that he had a two-hour phone conversation with the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, before the Ukrainian delegation arrived in Florida. According to the American leader, in the phone conversation, which he called “productive”, Putin committed to helping with the reconstruction of Ukraine, including by providing cheap energy.
