Citizens who have worked or are working in Italy and apply for an Italian pension will soon be able to include in the periods worked in the Republic of Moldova in the contributory period. Also, the Moldovans who have returned to the country could benefit from a pension that will also include the years worked in Italy, President Maia Sandu said in a video, announcing that she signed the decree by which the Minister of Labour and Social Protection was empowered to sign on October 31, in Rome, a new agreement that improves the social protection of Moldovans in Italy and introduces the totalization of periods of work, IPN reports.
“We have made every effort to succeed in signing this agreement as soon as possible because it is essential for our Moldovans abroad to be protected and to benefit from the pension they deserve,” said Maia Sandu.
The head of state noted that Italy signed such social agreements with only two states in the last 20 years: Albania and the Republic of Moldova.
