Petru Macovei and Valeriu Pashawere appointed by Parliament as members of the Board of the Centre for Strategic Communication and Combating of Disinformation for a five-year term, without the possibility of serving another consecutive term, IPN reports.
The candidates were selected following a competition organized by the Parliament’s commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and the media. Twelve people filed to take part in the contest. Seven candidates were admitted to the interview and Valeriu Pașa and Petru Macovei were accepted by a majority of votes of commission members.
Petru Macovei is the executive director of the Association of Independent Press, while Valeriu Pasha is the head of WatchDog.MD Community.
The Center for Strategic Communication and Combating of Disinformation was created in July this year. The mission of the institution is to strengthen and improve interinstitutional efforts in the fight against disinformation, manipulation of information and coordinated actions to spread messages, narratives, communications that pose a danger or can jeopardize the achievement of national interests. The Center’s Board consists of 11 members. Two of them, representatives of civil society, are selected at a contest by the Parliament’s commission for culture, education, research, youth, sport and the media and are confirmed by Parliament.
