Prosecutors are seeking a 13-year prison sentence for MP Marina Tauber, an affiliate of fugitive Ilan Shor. The prosecutors are also calling for her to be put on wanted wanted wanted list. The requests were made during the July 11 hearing at the Buiucani branch of the Chisinau Court, IPN reports.
The prosecutors have asked the court to deprive Marina Tauber of the right to hold public office and to carry out activities related to the accounting and financial organization of political parties for a period of five years.
Marine Tauber is charged on five counts – falsifying campaign and political party financing reports, accepting illegal financing from an organized criminal group, and interfering with the administration of justice, according to a press release from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office.
As for the political party Shor, declared unconstitutional, the prosecutors asked the court to recognize the legal entity guilty of committing the offenses provided for in the article on the violation of the manner of managing the financial means of political parties or electoral funds of the Criminal Code, as well as the termination of the criminal proceedings in connection with its dissolution by the Constitutional Court’s judgment of June 19, 2023.
The prosecutors also requested the seizure of funds that were transmitted under the control of the prosecution, used and intended for the commission of the crime, in the amount of 9 921 424,70 lei, recognized as corpus delicti (which are kept at the State Tax Service). At the same time, they also demanded the special confiscation from the account of Marina Tauber in the amount of 196 239 788 lei, used and intended for the commission of the crime.
The debates were not concluded and will be resumed at the sitting set for July 14, 10:00 A.M.
Last summer, Marine Tauber was banned from leaving the country. The measure was maintained until the end of the year. PA says that on January 7 this year, Tauber left the Republic of Moldova via Chisinau International Airport, flying to Istanbul, Turkey.
