Six candidates for the post of mayor of the municipality of Balti submitted the documents to be registered as election contenders. The information was confirmed for IPN by Svetlana Colesnic, head of Balti District Electoral Council No. 2.
According to the preliminary order, the list of candidates on the ballot will be headed by Vladimir Rusu, of the Party of Action and Solidarity. He will be followed by Ion Straciuc, of the Party “We Build Europe at Home”, Maxim Moroșan, of the Party of Socialists, and Alexandru Gustoi, of the Party of Communists.
The Liberal Democratic Party’s candidate Sergio Burlacu will be under No. 5, the candidate of the Party of Development and Consolidation of Moldova Aureliu Filipp – under No. 6. Teodor Moraru and Ion Ciobanu, who intend to run as independents, asked for the subscription lists to collect signatures from supporters.
Marina Tauber’s request to be issued with subscription lists was rejected as the law bans representatives who held key posts in outlawed parties from running in elections for a period of five years.
To run as an independent for mayoralty, the aspirants need to collect 1,028 signatures and to present them to the electoral council until October 5.
