The Chisinau Appeals Court rejected suspended prosecutor general Alexandr Stoianoglo’srequest to annul the ordinary court’s decision to place him under house arrest. During the hearing that lasted for over five hours, several tens of persons, among whom were MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists, were demonstrating in front of the Court, demanding “fair justice” and “freedom for the prosecutor general”, IPN reports.
The suspended Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo was arrested on October 5 and was subsequently placed under house arrest on charges of abuse of office, bribery, perjury, and facilitation of an organized criminal group. He pleads not guilty, while his lawyers say the criminal case against him is politically motivated and represents abuse of power. According to them, the post of prosecutor general was taken over illegally.
