The Independent Analysis Center Expert-Grup will offer energy efficiency audits free of charge to ten apartment owners association selected as a result of a contest.
The audits will assess the current state of the residential buildings, with a focus on detecting the biggest causes of energy loss.
“It’s no secret that most residential buildings in Moldova are in an extremely difficult technical condition. They were built many decades ago, when energy efficiency was not a matter of consideration, because energy supply was considered to be inexhaustible. As a result, we now have a situation where residents of high-rise buildings consume maximum heat to warm up their apartment to a minimum, because these old buildings lose most of the energy. At the same time, residents receive exorbitant bills, literally paying for street heating, and the state is still energy dependent. Only a complex thermal modernization of the blocks will contribute to improving the situation”, said Adrian Lupusor, executive director of Expert-Grup.
Following the assessments, each participating association will get a list of recommendations to minimize energy losses, with an estimation of costs and potential savings included. In the future, 1-3 projects will be selected for implementation.
The effort is implemented by Expert-Grup in partnership with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development, with the support of the Dutch Embassy in Moldova, as part of the 2022-2024 technical assistance for energy efficiency and security.
