According to the diplomat, the conditions for the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the EU largely coincide with the wishes expressed by the citizens. “Many of these conditions represent exactly the same elements that the people of this country desire,” emphasized the ambassador.
The Ambassador also mentioned that the result of the recent parliamentary elections confirmed the constant support of the population for the European path of the Republic of Moldova. “It was very important to see the citizens’ vote. Indeed, once again it was confirmed something that we have been observing for several years – that the people of this country want to be part of the European family,” said Iwona Piórko.
According to the official, the reform of justice, the fight against corruption, the rule of law, the supremacy of law are in fact the essence of the expectations and requests of Moldovan citizens, just as for the EU.
“For this reason, this part of the negotiations represents fundamental aspects. It’s like building a house. When you build a house, if you don’t lay a good foundation, the house will collapse. Exactly the same thing happens here. These aspects – efficient justice, a public administration free from corruption and many others – are the ones that represent the foundation for any other reforms,” said the EU ambassador.
