The head of PCCOCS, Victor Furtuna, has passed the vetting

The head of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, Victor Furtuna, has undergone an external evaluation. The Superior Council of Prosecutors approved today the report of the Prosecutors’ Evaluation Commission, which concluded that there are no integrity deviations in his activity, reports IPN.

The Commission’s report mentions that all ambiguities from the submitted declaration and accumulated information have been addressed and clarified, including four aspects considered essential. According to the report, the first aspect concerned the prosecutor’s involvement in the Stoianoglo versus Moldova case, the second – his involvement in a pending case at the ECHR, derived from another request submitted by Stoianoglo, the third referred to the Vieru versus Moldova case and the fourth – to Matasaru versus Moldova.

“After analyzing the files received from the General Prosecutor’s Office and the government agent, as well as the explanations provided by Mr. Furtuna, the panel did not find any issues regarding the compliance with ethical and financial integrity criteria. Therefore, it was decided that Mr. Furtuna has passed the evaluation”, stated the rapporteur Rodica Ciobanu, CSP member.

Victor Furtuna is known for handling several high-profile cases, including the case in which the former Attorney General Alexandr Stoianoglo was accused.

He has been employed in the prosecutor’s office system since 2011. Throughout his career, he has held positions within the Prosecutor’s Office of the city of Chisinau and the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office. In 2022, he was appointed interim deputy of the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes (PCCOCS). In January 2023, he took over the interim position of chief prosecutor of the PCCOCS, and in November 2024 he was designated the winner of the competition for this position.
