Tourism agencies reported 252 thousand people served in the third quarter of this year – the highest quarterly indicator of tourists ever recorded in Moldova. The data was presented by the economic expert of IDIS “Viitorul”, Veaceslav Ionita, according to whom 2025 is the best year for Moldovan tourism, reports IPN.
The specialist explains in his analysis that the demand comes from the increased interest of foreigners in Moldova and from the growing number of Moldovans who choose to vacation in the country. Since the beginning of the year, a total of 583 thousand people have been registered.
“Domestic tourism, which for years has remained at about 50 thousand tourists annually, has seen a remarkable rise,” emphasized Veaceslav Ionita. The annual figure is 187 thousand people, of which 82 thousand are foreigners and 105 thousand are Moldovans. By the end of the year, the total number could reach 200 thousand tourists from the country.
Romania remains the main source of visitors, with 56% of those reported. Italy generates 14%, and next in the ranking are tourists from Ukraine, Germany, and the USA. The IDIS expert maintains that the ratio between Moldovans who leave and foreigners who come has visibly improved, being 1 to 5.
The demand for tourist accommodations has also increased. After 474 thousand people were accommodated last year, the first three quarters of this year have already totaled 400 thousand, of which 290 thousand are foreign tourists. Approximately 30% of them choose organized packages.
According to Veaceslav Ionita, the potential remains high. The expert asserts that at least 10% of Moldovans should opt for organized domestic tourism.
