The mayor of the village of Chistelnita, Telenesti district, Alexandru Isac, held an unjustified wealth of almost 570,000 lei during the period 2019-2025, ascertains the National Integrity Authority, reports IPN.
The audit of the National Integrity Authority was initiated following a notification from the National Anti-Corruption Center. The ANI inspectors analyzed the declarations of wealth and personal interests, income, expenses, acquisitions of movable and immovable property, as well as financial flows.
According to ANI, “the difference between the income earned and the expenses is equivalent to 45.7 average monthly salaries in the economy, and the explanations provided by the subject of the control were not supported by sufficient evidence to justify the differences found”.
Therefore, ANI has ordered the case to be sent to court, where judges will decide whether the unjustified assets should be confiscated. At the same time, ANI has decided to terminate the position or mandate of the person under investigation, and the person in question will no longer have the right to hold public office.
In the explanations provided to the National Integrity Authority, Alexandru Isac explained that at the time of his appointment as vice-president of the Telenesti district, he had cash savings of about 360 thousand lei, accumulated previously. He added that some amounts, considered by inspectors as bank transfers, were in fact cash donations received through individuals from the Russian Federation.
The mayor further explained that the observed negative differences would have been generated by the payment of leasing rates and loans, the purchase of goods (car and motorcycle), as well as political donations, expenses which, according to him, would have been covered by personal savings, donations from relatives and bank loans.
Alexandru Isac secured the position of mayor of the village of Chistelnita following the second round of local elections on November 19, 2023. He ran on behalf of the “Renastere” party, associated with Ilan Shor.
