The case concerning the Shor Party and the deputy chairwoman of this party Marina Tauber is to be remitted to court, the chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office (APO) Veronica Dragalin said after the Constitutional Court outlawed the party led by Ilan Shor. At the same time, she noted that the recent leaks will not intimidate her and will not make her leave the APO, IPN reports.
On Monday, the Constitutional Court declared the Shor Party unconstitutional. Under the Court’s decision, a commission will be constituted to strike the party off the registers, while the party’s MPs wills serve as independents until the mandate of the current legislature expires. Also, the mayors elected on the lists of this party will hold office as independents. The APO chief said the case regarding the illegal financing of the Shor Party will be soon sent to court.
“The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office completed the investigation into the case featuring the Shor Party as a legal entity and Marina Tauber. The case is to be remitted to court. We notified the Constitutional Court of the evidence accumulation during the investigation. The Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office actually didn’t take part in the process, but I also saw the Constitutional Court’s decision. I’m not a constitutional law expert, but form the viewpoint of criminal legislation, the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office considers there are sufficient proofs to hold the legal entity Shor Party accountable and, as a result, this legal entity can be liquidated by criminal procedure,” Veronica Dragalin stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.
The APO head expressed her dissatisfaction with the fact that the audio recording in which she was threatening her inferiors appeared in the public sphere, but noted that such gestures do not intimidate her and will not make her stop the fight against corruption.
“That meeting was recorded illegally, without me knowing about it. I presume the recording was made by a person or several persons from the staff of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office. The things I say in the meetings represent my opinion. I tell them the truth. These things were made public, but I would prefer our internal discussions to remain inside the institution. My goal was to clearly tell the corrupt persons from the institution that their leaks do not intimidate me and I will not abandon the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office and will do my best for the corrupt persons to be held to account. I saw the statements about my threats addressed to the staff I manage. My role as the chief of the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office is to make sure that corrupt persons from the Republic of Moldova are held accountable. I’m a prosecutor who always obeyed the law, the prosecutor’s Code of Ethics,” explained the APO chief.
According to Veronica Dragalin, the audio recording in which she tells her inferiors that she is impatient to personally enter their homes with persons in balaclavas, at 6am, to arrest them in the presence of their children and spouses was made during the June 7 meeting with all the staff of the APO.
