The Provisional Licensing Commission for the Import of Cereal and Oilseed Crops rejected the application for the import of 24,000 tonnes of corn and 8,000 tonnes of wheat submitted by Zernoff LLC, IPN reports.
“The Commission rejected the import application and recommended the applicant to create a platform for the communication with domestic grain producers in order to identify the quantities requested from the country’s domestic sources,” said the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.
It was also recommended that the national associations of grain producers should cooperate with Zernoff LLC so as to optimize the process of purchasing grain from the internal sources of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture, these recommendations were formulated to secure a balance between the need to import grain and support local producers in order to ensure the country’s food security, but also to strengthen the value chain.
