The leaders of the “Tux” trading platform were detained, through which scams are alleged to have been carried out on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Law enforcement conducted 28 searches in three criminal cases related to illicit entrepreneurial activities, money laundering, and tax evasion, reports IPN, referring to the General Police Inspectorate.
IGP reports that five people, aged between 30 and 45, including leaders of the platform, have been detained. After the searches, hundreds of thousands of lei, foreign currency, computers used for transactions on the platform, phones and other relevant evidence were seized, the Police specify.
A month ago, information appeared in the public domain about the collapse of “Tux” and the fact that several citizens had invested their savings through this platform, which later turned out to be a classic pyramid scheme. Moldovan users were warned that in order to keep their accounts active, they had to deposit $100 USDT within just 24 hours, otherwise their access would be blocked. A countdown timer displayed in the app amplified the psychological pressure.
The National Investigation Inspectorate then announced the initiation of a criminal process, related to the suspicious activities of the “Tux” platform. According to the head of the Center for Combating Cyber Crimes within the NII, Iurie Rosca, there were reasonable grounds to suspect that this investment scheme could constitute a fraud, but that, at that time, there were no complaints from victims.
Tux Digital Frontier Technologies initially presented itself as a global leader in blockchain technology, headquartered in Canada. The company boasted about the MSB license obtained in the US in 2018 and one of the most efficient trading systems worldwide. The launch was portrayed as a turning point, expanding from Europe and the US to all over the world.
