Elections in 17 constituencies of ATU Gagauzia held this Sunday

The runoff to elect deputies of the People’s Assembly will take place in 11 constituencies of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia on October 3 as none of the candidates who competed in these constituencies gained more than half of the votes in the first round of elections. In another six constituencies, the elections will be rerun due to the low voter turnout on September 19, IPN reports.

On September 19, the inhabitants of Gagauzia elected deputies of the People’s Assembly for a new four-year term. The elections were held in 35 single-member constituencies. Only 18 deputies were elected then.

The runoff is organized in the constituencies where no candidate was declared winner as a result of the first round of elections. The conditions for validating the elections in each constituency do not change: turnout of at least 1/3 of the voters put on the electoral rolls. The race involves the two candidates who won most of the votes.

The 11 constituencies were the runoff will be heed are: No. 1 and No. 4 (Comrat), No. 5 and No. 6 (Ceadîr-Lunga), No. 12 (Baurci), No. 15 (Bugeac), No. 20 (Etulia), No. 22 (Gaidar), No. 29 (Congazcic), No. 30 (Copceac) and No. 34 (Svetlîi).

The six constituencies where the elections will be rerun owing to the low voter turnout on September 19 are: No. 2 and No. 3 (Comrat), No. 10 (Vulcănești), No. (Beșalma), No. 27 and No. 28 (Congaz). This time there is no minimum voter turnout.

Fir the October 3 elections, the Electoral Commission of Comrat decided to print over 66,000 ballots, over 61,000 of which are in Russian, while by over 2,000 are in the Romanian and Gagauz languages.
