Cosmetic products containing prohibited substances, withdrawn from trade by ANSP

Several cosmetic products, sold in stores in the Republic of Moldova, have been withdrawn from the market after inspectors from the National Agency for Public Health detected Butylphenyl Methylpropional, also known as Lilial, in their composition. This is a banned substance that can affect health, reports IPN.

The checks were carried out between June 19th and 26th in the Herb, MoonGlow, and Casa Curată store network. Among the targeted products are MISSHA BB creams, CP-1 3 Seconds Hair Fill-Up Shampoo, Relaxing Concealer Stay Sun Safe, Secret of Sahara Oil: Light and More, PRELESTI Professional hairspray, ELEN COSMETICS cleansing foam, and Malizia Bon Bons deodorants.

All these products contain BMHCA, a substance banned in the European Union and Moldova, according to a Government Decision. Studies show that Lilial can cause allergic reactions, skin sensitization, and because it is considered toxic to fetal development, it can affect the reproductive system.

BMHCA is a synthetic compound used for its floral scent, commonly found in perfumes, creams, or care products. Due to the risks identified in scientific evaluations, this substance has been banned in cosmetic products starting from 2022 in the EU, a ban that is also applicable in Moldova.

Previously, the ANSP has withdrawn three other non-compliant cosmetic products for the same reason – they contained Lilial. These are Lador – Dermatical Active Ampoule, Jayjun – Hyaluronic Acid Hydrating Eye Cream, and MISSHA – Men’s Cure Shave to Cleansing Foam, all originating from South Korea.

ANSP urges consumers who have purchased these products to avoid using them and to return them to the stores from which they were purchased.

The institution reminds that economic agents have the obligation to verify the composition of products before their placement on the market and to comply with notification procedures, in order to prevent consumer exposure to hazardous substances.
