Over the course of the next three years, about 150,000 vulnerable households across the country will receive vouchers of up to 7,000 lei to replace their old appliances with new and energy efficient ones. The value of the vouchers and the selection criteria were approved by the Council of the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED), which is in charge of the program. The budget for the first voucher granting round was approved at 54.5 million lei.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Energy, the vouchers will cover up to 70% of the cost of household appliances and will be granted to consumers registered on the government platform compensatii.gov.md. Beneficiaries in the extreme energy vulnerability category will receive vouchers of 7,000 lei, those in the very high energy vulnerability category will receive 6,000 lei, and those in the high energy vulnerability category 5,000 lei.
Priority will be given to families with many children, families with elderly people and families with people with special needs. Households that previously received financial support to buy household appliances will not be eligible, except for vouchers for replacing light bulbs.
To purchase a new appliance, beneficiaries will have to discard in exchange old equipment of the same type, such as a refrigerator or washing machine. It is ok if the old device is out of order.
The selected beneficiaries will be informed via their personal cabinet on the compensatii.gov.md platform, through SMS messages or by e-mail about the availability of the vouchers.
The Ministry of Energy says that in the long term the Program will help to the increase of economic security, the efficiency of energy consumption and the reduction of energy poverty by cutting bills.
