A Shahed drone has flown over the south of the Republic of Moldova

A Shahed type drone flew over the airspace in the south of the Republic of Moldova this morning. The Border Police specifies that it was informed about the flight by the Air Operations Service of the Ministry of Defense, reports IPN.

According to the information received, the aerial device was detected in the direction of Vinogradovca-Vulcanesti. Subsequently, it moved towards the state border with Romania, in the area between the localities of Colibasi, Cahul district and Vadul lui Isac. The drone crossed the border and entered the airspace of Romania. The Romanian side was immediately informed about this situation.

“Based on the information received, procedural measures provided for by the current legislation are being undertaken, the area where the drone would have passed is being checked and so far no objects that pose risks to the safety of citizens have been identified”, the Border Police specifies.

The institution also mentions that it remains in contact with national institutions and international partners, continuing to ensure the surveillance and security of the state border and the citizens of the Republic of Moldova.

The incident comes less than a week after a drone, presumably of Russian origin, illegally overflew the airspace of the Republic of Moldova. In this context, the Russian Federation’s ambassador to Chisinau, Oleg Ozerov, was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where he was given a strong protest from the Moldovan authorities regarding the violation of national sovereignty and the risks generated for the security of citizens.
