The number of children enrolled in educational institutions in Chisinau municipality has increased by more than 20,000. Currently, practically half of the municipal budget, i.e. over 3.5 billion lei, is allocated to the education sector. Details in this regard were provided by mayor Ion Ceban after one year in office as part of his second term, IPN reports.
The mayor of Chisinau told a press conference that last year, for example, the municipality opened the “STEAM” educational complex. Also, a new block of study was inaugurated at “Mihail Lomonosov” Theoretical High School, with over 300 new places for students.
“Thus, in recent years we invested five times more money in education. Dozens of kindergartens and schools were built and expanded, more than 150 new groups were opened in kindergartens, five youth centers have been created. Also, dozens of educational institutions were equipped with furniture and equipment. Over 50 schools and kindergartens were made energy efficient. Kindergartens no. 20 and no. 215 are to be made energy efficient with assistance from foreign partners,” stated the mayor.
According to Ion Ceban, the municipality also invests in the sports infrastructure of educational institutions. Last year, football stadiums were rehabilitated and opened at “Alexandru Ioan Cuza”, “Olimp”, “Petru Zadnipru” and “George Meniuc” high schools. Many other results were achieved at educational institutions in Chisinau and the suburban settlements of the capital city.
Ion Ceban was elected mayor general in the November 2019 local elections and was re-elected for a new term a year ago.
