All the women aged between 25 and 61, both medically insured and medically uninsured ones, are urged to do a cytology test to prevent cervical cancer once in three years. The service in Moldova is free of charge. The Cervical Cancer Prevention Week is being staged in Moldova during January 23 – February 4. For the first time, the campaign is launched on the Platform of Female MPs of Moldova, IPN reports.
In the opening of the event, MP Marcela Adam said the Platform of Female MPs aims to be a powerful voice of all women in Moldova. “Today, we can all combine forces to prevent cervical cancer as information and the acknowledgement of the mechanisms for preventing this disease can save lives. We can all eradicate this disease when we inform ourselves and inform others,” stated the MP.
Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco said the eradication of cervical cancer is one of the most important objectives for the period until 2030. “We must joint forces so that no woman dies from this disease,” stated the minister.
The event to launch the Cervical Cancer Prevention Week involved women who managed to prevent cervical cancer owing to cytology testing and early detection of precancerous lesions. The invitees urged all the women in Moldova to protect their health by getting a vaccine against HPV and doing a regular Pap test.
The Cervical Cancer Prevention Week will include public awareness raising events. As the previous years, young people will be engaged in the distribution of brochures and in the dissemination of the campaign messages. For the first time this year, a number of private companies will take an active part to promote campaign messages as part of corporate social responsibility activities.
Cervical cancer remains a major public health issue in Moldova. About 160 women die annually from this disease. Most of the affected women are those aged between 35 and 45. Positive tendencies yet are reported in the early detection of cases of cervical cancer, which are treated successfully.
