Houses of culture will become independent

The houses of culture will become independent and will decide by themselves their legal status, depending on the needs and priorities of their communities. This is provided in the new regulations on the functioning of houses of culture that were approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

The director of the house of culture will be chosen at a contest for a four-year term. He will be responsible for the work of the institution, the register of records, the program, the annual progress report. To ensure transparency and proper management, an Administrative Board of the House of Culture will be set up. This will consist of representatives of the founder, of the Culture Division of the municipality or district and of a representative of civil society.

In Moldova, there are over 1,200 active houses of culture that are managed by the local public authorities. According to minister of culture Sergiu Prodan, so far the law on culture didn’t contain any provisions referring to the house of culture. “Under the regulations, the houses of culture will be able to obtain the status of legal personality for becoming real community centers, for satisfying the culturalization needs of the community. The houses of culture will be able to establish relations of partnership, including economic ones. Given that these institutions are subordinated to the local public authorities, we want to have fruitful cooperation with the LPAs in terms of policies and cultural projects centered on community life,” stated Sergiu Prodan.
