A lawyer was arrested on charges of influence peddling. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, this asked for and received €6,000 bribe from a Moldovan citizen for influencing a decision in the case in which his client was accused of attempting to smuggle drugs. A criminal investigative officer of the Customs Service and an investigative officer of the National Inspectorate for Investigations are also under investigation, IPN reports.
According to the denouncer, the lawyer informed him that he can influence the criminal investigative officer of the Customs Service and other public servants to adopt favorable solutions over the investigated deeds. It goes to a criminal case in which the denouncer is suspected of attempting to smuggle drugs. The case is handled by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Customs Service.
To collect the necessary evidence, officers of the National Anticorruption Center ordered to carry out searches at the domicile of those involved in this case and also in the office of the criminal investigative officer of the Customs Service.
The lawyer will be held for 72 hours, while the criminal investigative officer of the Customs Service and the investigative officer of the National Investigation Inspectorate weren’t detained.
