Moldova could generate 20 mln MW of energy from waste, entrepreneurs

Today, Moldova has at least five million tons of biomass and household waste, from which 20 million MW of energy can be generated, of which 18 million MW of thermal energy and 2 million MW of electricity per year, thanks to the implementation of ecoHornet technology. This is was stated by Iuliean Horneț, a famous Romanian inventor and entrepreneur, in a press conference.

“This means that we can provide 2250 MW of heat in winter and cooling in summer, as well as 250 MW of electricity, which would mean the energy independence of the Republic of Moldova”, said Iuliean Horneț.

Ion Rață, president of the “Innovative Projects” International Consortium, said that a major problem in Moldova are the tires thrown away everywhere, and their use has no economically feasible regulation. Thanks to the ecoHornet technology, tires will not only generate electricity and heat, but also precious materials. This business is already profitable, a and only more serious investment is needed in the early phase, said Ion Rață. He added that the Government can obtain it in cooperation with Romania, which, being a EU memebr, has access to funds for the development of conventional energy in an environmentally friendly way.

Mihai Tîrsu, director of the Energy Institute, said that global warming is felt and measures must be taken as soon as possible. Of the emissions per country, the energy sector accounts for two thirds. If climate neutrality is desired, as the government and those at the forefront of the energy sector are proposing, action must be taken. A good solution would be the one proposed by Iuliean Horneț, because Moldova is drowning in waste. He urged those in charge of the sector to change their approach by implementing innovative and competitive solutions.

Andrei Cucoș, representative of the Ministry of Environment, said that great efforts are being made to identify new solutions and technologies that would help to cut greenhouse gases, so that the impact on the environment is as low as possible. A National Energy and Climate Plan that will contribute to this is now being drawn up. The Ministry of the Environment has a great interest in limiting the number of landfills and, at the same time, in their modernization.
