The Ukrainian nation is celebrating its Independence Day today, August 24. In their congratulatory messages on this occasion, the Moldovan authorities highlighted the lesson of courage and love of country that Ukrainians demonstrate every day, boldly defending the independence of both Ukraine and the whole of Europe. The officials wished this day to be a moment of hope, and for peace to triumph all over the world.
Speaker Igor Grosu declared that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova support the Ukrainian people in the fight for freedom, they stand by them and strongly believe that “Ukraine will prevail in this barbaric war of the Russian Federation”. “Both Moldova and Ukraine gained our independence 33 years ago and we know that the journey was not easy at all. That’s why we will do our best to move forward and be part of a big family, where there is democracy, peace, well-being, and this family is the European Union”, said Igor Grosu.
President Maia Sandu announced that on this important day, the people of Moldova are celebrating together with the Ukrainians. “As you fight bravely for the freedom of your land, remember that your spirit is already free and strong, reflecting the resilience of your nation. We remain steadfast in our support as you continue to defend your sovereignty and contribute to lasting peace. Together we share a common vision of a future based on peace, democracy and European values”, said the Moldovan president in a video address.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a post that “the strength of Ukrainians and the determination with which they defend their country is a model of admiration, and our commitment to supporting Ukraine remains unwavering”.
In solidarity with the Ukrainian people, today, starting at 21:00, the Parliament building will be lit in the colors of Ukraine.
