Oleg Horjan released from Transnistrian jail

Oleg Horjan, a former opposition deputy from the left side of the Nistru, was set free. The Reintegration Policies Bureau came with a reaction, saying that the issue was frequently raised in negotiations between the chief negotiators and in discussions of human rights working groups, IPN reports.

“The freedom of opinion that has been recently invoked by the team of negotiators from Tiraspol is a right enjoyed by all the citizens, including Oleg Horjan, Vadim Pogorletskii, Victor Pleshkanov, Sergey Shishkov and others persons who continue to be held illegally in jails on the left side of the Nistru and in the municipality of Bender for “crime of opinion”, the Bureau said in a press release.

It reaffirmed its determination to intervene with all the possible forms of assistance for obtaining the release from illegal detention of all the persons who are held there either because they pleaded for the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova or condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, or expressed opinions that run counter to the position of decision makers from Tiraspol.

“The subject of human rights cannot be overshadowed by other items from the agenda of negotiations between Chisinau and Tiraspol and remains an absolute priority for Chisinau and we hope that the OSCE Mission will further remain as sensitive to this issue, including to the individual cases to which we have referred for so many times the past year,” said the institution.

The Bureau also expressed its gratitude to the OSCE Mission to Moldova, which always reacted to the requests related to this case.
