Ombudswoman tenders resignation

Ombudswoman Natalia Moloșag announced her decision to quit through the website of the Ombudsperson’s Office. In her letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Moloșag says she decided to vacate her post following public reports about her job so as not to damage the image of the institution, IPN reports.

Recent press reports said the ombudswoman in her job uses the services of a person who was convicted for illegal acts. In a news conference on December 1, Natalia Moloșag said Dumitru Godorog, a former convict whom she represented in court when she worked as a lawyer, was employed at the Ombudsperson’s Office based on a contract for the provision of volunteer services valid for October-December 2021. He worked as a driver and also as a bodyguard and didn’t become involved in her duties and didn’t have access to personal data, as it was rumored.

Opinion leaders and politicians expressed their concern about the alleged violations committed by the ombudswoman. Some of them said the responsible bodies should investigate the depicted circumstances. After the ombudswoman provided her explanations, they said Natalia Moloșag should resign.
