The MPs voted in favor of the termination of the tenure of Natalia Moloșag as ombudswoman based on her resignation even if she changed her mind and asked to annul her resignation, IPN reports.
The post of ombudsperson was declared vacant. Until this is filled, the post will be held on an interim basis by ombudswoman for children’s rights Maia Bănărescu.
A week ago, Natalia Moloșag announced her decision to quit. In her letter to the Speaker of Parliament, Moloșag says she decided to vacate her post following public reports about her job so as not to damage the image of the institution. Press reports said the ombudswoman in her job used the services of a person who was convicted for illegalities. Natalia Moloșag argued this person was employed at the Ombudsperson’s Office to work as a driver and also as a bodyguard and didn’t become involved in her duties. In several days, she asked yet to annul the resignation she tendered to Parliament, invoking the conclusions of the general inventorying of the property of the Ombudsperson’s Office conducted between October 11 and December 8.
