The driving license 2025 has been approved, according to EU standards

Moldova puts into circulation the 2025 model driving license, the change being adopted by the Government for the alignment of our legislation to the requirements of the European Union, reports IPN.

The “Restrictions” field is expanded to indicate any potential medical limitations of the drivers, information that could not be fully presented until now. On the back there is a QR code, which allows the verification of the data’s authenticity through the government portal.

The new license brings technical changes, intended to increase road safety and the degree of document verification, according to the Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin.

The 2025 model is designed to transpose the provisions of the EU directive on driving licenses. The document does not include the distinctive signs of the member states nor the microchip, the latter being optional, but it is designed to facilitate the recognition and use of the Moldovan license in international traffic.

The permits issued previously remain valid. The 1995 models will continue to be used without an expiration date, while those from 2015 and 2019 maintain their validity until the date in the document. The new permit will only be issued for future requests, without the obligation of immediate exchange of those in circulation.

The decision will come into effect on the date when the technical conditions necessary for the issuance of the 2025 model driving license are met, but no later than May 31, 2026.
