Sergiu Russu and Sergiu Brigai were appointed deputies of Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu, who was recently named to the position. The candidates were approved on Wednesday by the Superior Council of Prosecutors at the proposal of the Prosecutor General, IPN reports.
Sergiu Russu is the chief prosecutor of the Section for Combating Trafficking in Human Beings of the Prosecutor General’s Office, with 18 years of experience in the prosecution service. In his new position, he will be responsible for criminal investigation. “When selecting the candidate, we took into account his professional and personal qualities, with the appreciation of his performance during his career and also his managerial skills related to the institutional field,” noted Ion Munteanu.
According to the prosecutor general, the second deputy, Sergiu Brigai, will be responsible for the judicial field. “He has a professional experience of over 17 years in the prosecution service. During the last 12 years, he practiced in the judicial field,” said Ion Munteanu.
The two deputies will serve during the term of office of the prosecutor general.
Ion Munteanu, who held the post of prosecutor general on an interim basis since October 2022, was sworn in on June 1 following a public competition.
