The women who will work during the maternity leave will be able to receive both salary and maternity benefit. The MPs passed a bill that allows for this on Thursday, IPN reports.
The bill aims to increase the women’s participation and to reduce the burden of non-remunerated work or work remunerated illegally on pregnant women who continue work even when they are on maternity leave.
Currently, salary is paid for the period of the maternity leave that coincides with the period during which the woman works, not yet benefit. The bill enables the woman to keep also the benefit whose size is to be determined based on the income of the wife or husband, depending on whose salary is higher.
To implement this provision, amendments were approved to the Labor Code, the law on the public post and the status of public functionary and the law on allowances for temporary incapacity for work and other types of social welfare.
