Meteorologists issued a yellow warning for frost for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. At night and in the morning, temperatures on the surface of the ground will vary between -1 and -3 degrees Celsius, IPN reports.
“During April 27-29, ground frost is possible at night and in the morning, on large areas. On April 28-29, there will be air frost with an intensity between -1 and -3 degrees Celsius,” said the State Weather Service.
At the end of the week, the weather will start to cool down. Temperatures will drop by about 10 degrees Celsius. At the same time, torrential rains with thunder and lightning are forecast.
The drop in temperatures is caused by a cold air front that crosses the territory of the Republic of Moldova. Svetlana Cojocaru, of the State Weather Service, told IPN that the usual temperatures for this period, of around 20 degrees Celsius, will return after April 30..
Cold weather in the last decade of April was also recorded in 2017. That year, on April 20 and 21, heavy snow fell in the center and south of Moldova and caused the collapse of tens of thousands of trees and shrubs, as well as the disconnection of entire localities from the supply of electricity.
