The MPs of the Bloc of Communists and Socialists in the June 2 sitting of Parliament proposed a simple motion against the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, IPN reports.
“Today, in over nine months since the minister of agriculture and food industry took over, the state of affairs in the strategic sector of the national economy – agriculture – is deplorable. This happens even if the post was taken up in a year with record highs for the agricultural sector,” said Radu Mudreac, deputy head of the Parliament’s commission on agriculture and food industry.
The MP noted that owing to the large crop last year, the country’s food security was to be ensured during several years to come. But the managerial capacities of the minister do not allow to continuously develop the sector and to ensure the population’s safe access to agrifood products. The access is limited due to the soaring prices and the reduction of the purchasing power of consumers.
Radu Mudreac invoked National Bureau of Statistics data according to which the prices of the main food products the past 12 months grew by 30.2%. In April 2022, compared with the same month of last year, the prices of vegetables rose by over 69%, of hen eggs – by 53%, of bead – by 26.6%, of meat and dairy products by 23.6% and 23.1% respectively.
Under the Parliament’s Regulations, a simple motion is debated in a plenary sitting of Parliament, being accompanied by the appraisal of the expert commission that is provided within seven workdays of the submission of the motion. The date of the sitting is set by the Standing Bureau within 14 days of the submission.
