The work of persons who contribute to developing libraries in Moldova was appreciated at the Galex National Awards Gala. Elena Pintilei, director general of the National Library of the Republic of Moldova, has told IPN that the event emphasizes the library as a community institution that responds to the needs of society and brings changes to communities, especially nowadays.
Elena Pintilei noted that the event promotes the personalities and institutions that in 2022 supported the National Library and the national libraries. In 2023, the National Library has a very ambitious agenda.
“We will further become involved to develop the digital skills of librarians and of the community members we serve. We will try to implement the National Program LecturaCentral. This year we also intend to become involved in the drafting of the National Calendar that places emphasis on famous persons and personalities of the nation, to carry out the planned sociocultural activities that promote the books and reading, to take famous writers and personalities to the diaspora through our online communication platforms and through other methods, to develop the digital library module on which the National Digital Library will be based and to launch a project to restore the Central Block of the National Library,ˮ stated the library’s director.
Andrei Chistol, secretary of state of the Ministry of Culture, said that it is important to discuss the role of libraries and what should be done for the libraries in Moldova to keep that breath of culture, to become involved in community development and in the preservation of the cultural heritage of the Republic of Moldova. “We have a series of challenges related to the work of libraries. That’s why it is important to promote, by such galas and such events, the persons who devote themselves to libraries and achieve notable results at local and regional levels,” stated the functionaries.
The Galex Award “Best Politician who Supports Libraries” this year went to the Ambassador of Austria to Moldova Stella Avallone.
The Award “Best Library Founder” was given to Valeriu Rusu, head of the Sângerei Culture Division.
The Award “Best Writer who Promotes Book and Reading” was handed over to Vasile Romanciuc, a member of the Union of Writers of the Republic of Moldova.
The Award “Best Editor who Supports Libraries’” went to Iurie Bârsa, director of ARC Publishing House.
Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Moldova Almat Aidarbekov received the Galex Award “Most Generous Patron of Libraries”.
The Award “Best Promoter and Supporter of Libraries, Book and Reading in the Media” was conferred on Petru Beșleagă, editor-in-chief of the portal Diez.md, and journalist Anișoara Crețu, who produces the program “Among Words” on TVR Moldova.
The Award “Best Friend Philanthropist of National Library” was given to Mugur Andronic, historian, a member of the Writers Union of Romania. Veronica Borș, deputy director of the National Library, and Valentina Popa, head of the Statistics Center, received the Galex Award “Best Librarian of the National Library”. Nadejda Mihai, director of the District Public Library “Dimitrie Cantemir” in Ungheni, was conferred the Award “Best Librarian of Public Libraries”.
Other Galex Award were handed over to Liuba Arion, senior specialist of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport of Chisinau, director of the online publication NewsMaker Olga Cenușă.
The Special Award “Alexe Răuˮ was conferred on Ilie Zagorichuk, head of the Briceni Culture and Tourism Division.
The Galex Award was instituted in 2010. The name consists of the first letters of the names of Gavriil Bilevici and Alexe Rău, two former prominent directors of the National Library.
