President Maia Sandu had a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the regular session of the UN General Assembly. The first meeting was held with the President of the Swiss Confederation Guy Parmelin with whom she discussed how to advance bilateral cooperation in areas of common interest, IPN reports.
According to the Moldovan presidential press service, the officials agreed to extend the commercial and economic relations and conferred on the intensification of negotiations on the free trade agreement with the EFTA states.
“I mentioned, in the context, the development programs implemented with the assistance of Switzerland in our country, in such areas as the supply of water, education, health, migration and others. I thanked Mister President for the generous assistance provided by Switzerland to support the fight against the pandemic – directly and through the agency of the World Health Organization and the COVAX Facility,” said President Maia Sandu.
She noted that Switzerland is a reliable partner with which the Republic of Moldova wants to further develop close cooperation relations. “I invited Mister Parmelin to visit the Republic of Moldova when his schedule permits,” concluded Maia Sandu.
During September 21-22, President Maia Sandu is paying a visit to New York to take part in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
