Moldovan and Portuguese foreign affairs ministers met in New York

The ministers of foreign affairs of the Republic of Moldova and Portugal agreed to organize an exchange of experience in formulating public policies on the diaspora, with emphasis on digitization and modern consular services. The discussions were held in the U.S. where the delegations of the two states are taking part in the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

“We will continue making diplomatic efforts to improve the Moldovan-Portuguese legal framework for the benefit of our citizens who settled in Portugal and expressed our country’s interest in learning from Portugal’s experience in the environment, water management, ecological farming, light industry, protection and conservation of the national architectural heritage,” said Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

Nicu Popescu asked his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva to consider the possibility of recognizing the vaccine certificates issued by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova so that the Moldovans can travel freely in Portugal.

For his part, Augusto Santos Silva said the Portuguese authorities fully support the European path of the Republic of Moldova. The two officials noted the role played by the Moldovan community in Portugal, agreeing that the Moldovan diaspora makes a valuable contribution to the development of the Portuguese society and the bilateral relations.
