A 64-year-old man from the capital fell victim to a phone scam, as a result of which he lost over half a million lei. The case is among the 19 phone scams recorded by law enforcement in the last 24 hours, with a total damage of over 2 million lei, reports IPN.

According to the General Inspectorate of Police, four of the cases were committed on Monday, while the others occurred earlier, only now being reported by the victims. The most affected regions are the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, as well as the Ungheni district.

Law enforcement officials warn that the number of frauds through fictitious investment platforms is on the rise. Victims are persuaded to invest significant amounts of money or take out loans, under the pretext of quick and guaranteed earnings.

IGP reiterates that representatives of banks, police or other public institutions never request the transfer of cash, disclosure of bank details or the transfer of money to unknown individuals.

In this context, citizens are urged to carefully check the information received through calls and messages, to avoid transfers to unknown individuals or unverified platforms, and to immediately notify the police in case of fraud suspicions.
