The reference price for a pack of cigarettes will be 46.59 lei next year. The State Fiscal Service announces that the sale of cigarettes and leaf tobacco at a price lower than this value will be penalized, reports IPN.
Merchants who do not comply with the rules risk fines calculated between 30% and 50% of the value of the products in stock at the time of inspection, based on the reference price.
The reference price is established by the formula provided in the Tax Code and is based on the minimum excise rate applied to tobacco products. For 2026, this rate is 1,595.53 lei per thousand units. The final value is calculated by applying the coefficients established by law and adjusting to the number of cigarettes in a pack.
The Fiscal Service specifies that non-compliance with the reference price constitutes an offense. Registering the maximum selling price below the legal level or marketing products at a lower price is penalized.
