The country survived with dignity the crises generated by the war in Ukraine and this is the biggest accomplishment of the PAS government during two years after its installment, stated MP of the ruling party Vitali Gavrouc. According to him, after taking over the PAS government had to act as a rescue service to manage the multiple crises that struck Moldova, IPN reports.
The MP noted that since the Party of Action and Solidary (PAS) took over, unfavorable geopolitical events have been witnessed and these affected governance. The energy crisis and the galloping prices are only several of the consequences of the Ukraine war which affected Moldova. The ruling party now aims to unite society around the European integration desideratum.
“When we came to power, there was no war in Ukraine and there was no energy crisis. Respectively, all the resources that were identified were redirected to solve the crisis. In fact, the PAS government acted as a rescue service in an extraordinary crisis situation and I would say the fact that the Republic of Moldova survived as a state and survived with dignity, with resilience is our most important accomplishment. I think that we united society to a great extent. We need to consolidate public opinion in the direction that the Republic of Moldova clearly chose, which is towards the European Union,” Vitali Gavrouc stated in the program “Reflection Points” on Vocea Basarabiei station.
The MP commented on the data of the last public opinion poll that was commissioned by the Institute for European Policies and Reforms. According to the survey, 60% of the Moldovans want the country to join the EU. At the same time, 51% of those polled consider the Republic of Moldova will become a member of the EU during the next ten years.
“We aim to have even higher figures. We aim to unite the political forces around this idea but haven’t managed yet. I don’t know if it is the blame of the PAS when other political forces support the aggressor state, but I’m sure that the support for the direction towards the EU will grow further. All the investments made by the European Union and Romania in the Republic of Moldova, including in regions that historically were more tempted to orient themselves to the East, started to producer results. I think we will soon reap the harvest of a change in mentality, especially in young people,” stated the MP.
On July 11, it has been two years of government under the PAS. On July 11, 2021, as a result of the snap elections, the party that is now led by Igor Grosu gained 63 seats of MP out of the total of 101.
