Energocom to buy electricity from Romania at €90/MWh

The state company Energocom signed a contract to buy electricity in January from Romania’s SN Nuclearelectrica, at a price of 450 Romanian lei, or about €90 per MWh.

The contract is estimated to cover 4% of Moldova’s power needs in January, with another 6% to be covered by other Romanian sources. This will be critical in compensating for any power deficits during peak hours.

The bulk, or about 60% of the total, will continue to be supplied by MGRES/Kuchurgan, under a contract extension signed yesterday. Another 30% will be sourced from cogeneration facilities on the western bank as well as from renewable sources.
