Lucia Popescu and Iulian Muntean will be proposed to Parliament to be appointed to Superior Council of the Judiciary, following the approval of the two winning candidacies by the Legal Commission.
Lucia Popescu has a degree in law and a master’s degree in civil law and European law. She is currently involved in the “Consolidation of transparency, accountability and access to the judicial system in Moldova” Project. She previously worked as legal advisor and project coordinator.
Iulian Muntean is a lawyer and was previously a university lecturer.
The competition to select candidates for the Superior Council was held in three stages. At the interview test, the final one, six people were admitted after passing the integrity pre-vetting carried out by an independent jury.
According to the current legislation, the Superior Council of the Judiciary is made up of 12 members. Six of them are non-judge members and they are to be appointed by Parliament with the vote of three fifths of the elected MPs.
