Stăuceni commune of Chisinau municipality becomes a city. The status was assigned by a draft law that was given a final reading by Parliament on Wednesday, IPN reports. The legislative initiative was drafted by the chair of the parliamentary commission on public administration and regional development Larisa Voloh. According to her, the obtaining by Stăuceni of the status of city is justified by the economic and demographic potential of the locality and is necessary to ensure the wellbeing of the residents.
The authorities say that this change will bring more opportunities for accessing European funds, will increase investments in infrastructure projects and the locality’s attractiveness to businessmen, which means more jobs.
Stăuceni commune consists of Stăuceni and Goianul Nou villages. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the population of the commune on January 1, 2023 was 9,295 inhabitants.
