The Environment Agency calls on the citizens to stop burning tires on Easter night so as to protect human health and the environment. Burning tires is prohibited by law and is punishable by a fine of up to 1,800 lei for individuals and of up to 15,000 lei for legal entities, IPN reports.
According to the Environment Agency, dozens of dangerous, carcinogenic chemicals are released into the atmosphere in the process of burning tires and, depending on the characteristics and direction of the wind, these substances can be dispersed at distances of more than 160 km.
Under the Contravention Code, the contamination of the air with pollutant emissions that cause damage, if this action does not constitute an offense, is punished with a fine of 1,200 to 1,800 lei in the case of individuals and of 10,500 to 15,000 lei in the case of legal entities.
