The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) in 2023 pronounced 24 judgments on Moldova and in each case found at least one violation of the Convention. Similarly, there were taken 34 decisions to drop the cases or declare them inadmissible. The Governmental Agent’s report on the measures taken to execute ECHR judgments and decisions was approved by the Cabinet and will be submitted to Parliament for information.
Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru said that the violations of the European Convention on Human Rights found by the Court refer mainly to actions or inaction of state authorities, such as the criminal investigation body, the prosecutor’s office, courts, bailiffs, local public authorities, temporary placement centers for persons with disabilities, etc.
Through judgments and decisions that became final in 2023, the European Court of Human Rights decided to award applicants €369,765 damages. In 2022, the amount was €545,947.
