President Maia Sandu sent a message of condolence over the death of Rabbi Zvi Kogan, a Moldovan-Israeli citizen who was murdered in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), IPN reports.
In a post on social media, the head of state wrote: “Hate has no place in our world. Our thoughts are with his family, the Jewish community and all those who are grieving. We are in contact with Israel and the United Arab Emirates.”
Zvi Kogan, assistant to the Chief Rabbi of the UAE, disappeared in the capital city of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi. Israeli authorities are treating the incident as a possible terror incident. After the victim’s body was discovered, three people were arrested.
The Israeli intelligence service “Mossad” started an investigation in collaboration with local authorities in the United Arab Emirates. Deutsche Welle, citing the publications Ynet and Walla, reported that the rabbi had been killed. Anonymous sources in the Israeli security services told Ynet that the assassins fled to Turkey. According to Walla’s portal, the Israeli authorities have information that the rabbi had been followed by the Iranian intelligence services.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova was informed by the UAE authorities about the death of the rabbi of the Jewish community in Abu Dhabi, Zvi Kogan, a citizen of Israel and the Republic of Moldova, who lived in the UAE on the basis of Moldovan citizenship and had the status of resident.
